Our Disney trips seem to have come full circle. The very first time we came to WDW as a family was in 2003 and we stayed at All Star Music. Gramma and Papa came with us that year so they could experience the magic with you. Gramma was so excited to stay in the "country" themed part of of the hotel, but it proved to be too far of a walk to the main entrance so we settled on the "calypso" buildings that year. This time we were back at All Star Music and were placed in the country buildings. Standing next to the gigantic cowboy boots we couldn't help but think of her and feel her spirit smiling down on us.

One Little Word

Scrapping has always been sort of therapy for me, an escape, a creative outlet. This year...it will help me heal. I'm sure you have heard about the "One Little Word" Challenge for the New Year. People have been doing this for years and I'm jumping on the bandwagon because I think if I have an album at the end of this year surrounding my OLW...it truly will help me "HEAL."

Obviously, this will be based on the loss of my parents in an effort to remember them, cherish our memories...but most of all start recovering from loss. Here is my first page for that album..."Missing You"

Treat others as you would like to be treated. Be still and listen. Just because something is true does not give you the right to say it. You will always need your Mother. Believe in yourself, just be yourself. What you give will return to you. You can achieve anything you set your mind to. You will always be loved.

One Year Without You

Well, this month marks the anniversary of the day my life as I know it changed forever. My Mom died on December 12, 2010 and I work everyday on trying to find my new "normal". I know this process takes time but I've found some comfort in my scrapping and journal. Looking forward to a brand new year and a fresh start.

Fairy Tale Ending

This keeper of a photo was taken on our way to the airport after our last trip to Disney in September...ahhhhh...if they were only always like this together ;-)

You two were completely exhausted after our trip to Disney. After 9 full days of having the time of our lives, who could blame you. We just finished our last day at Magic Kingdom and we were headed to the airport to catch our flight home and it took you both about 15 minutes and you were sleeping like babies. This photo warms my heart, it was the perfect ending to a wonderful vacation.

Childhood Christmas

It's been a rough year for me and my family. With Mom passing in December, and now Dad just a few weeks ago...it's been a struggle. I'm using my scrapping as therapy and have uncovered some wonderful photos and wonderful memories that I will hold tight to get me through.

Journal reads:
Our holidays were always full of fun and tradition. Christmas Eve was our time with relatives. We always had a traditional Polish dinner at our house. Fish, pierogies, and mushroom soup on the menu. Us kids were always so impatient waiting to open gifts.

Christmas Day was just us. We never went anywhere...just spent it with our little family. We would open gifts first thing and then have all day to play. Dad would spend hours putting toys together and playing with us. Mom would usually nap since she was always up so late wrapping gifts.

This was my first run of Spring and coincidentally the first since Mom died. There used to be a time when running was my escape, my time to be alone with my thoughts. Now, I don’t like to be alone with my thoughts...they are painful and still so sad. It took everything I had not to just stop, walk home and forget about it. It hurt to keep going, but I don’t ever want to disappoint her. Even now. I’m going to keep running and hopefully it will become more therapy for me...my time to deal with it instead of bottling it all up inside. April 7, 2011

ADSR #5 & #6

And the race goes on...

Leg #5 was hosted by Oscraps and was to scrap a page about what you would dream of doing for a whole day (or longer) if you could get away from the family.

Leg #6 was to be hosted by Digital Scrap Ink but due to unimaginable circumstances the nice folks at NDISB took the reins and submitted an optional challenge...

Let me explain...Due to the fact that Michelle from Digital Scrap Ink is gravely ill and in the hospital the regularly scheduled challenge was not posted. Michelle was recently diagnosed with Creutzfeldt-Jacob disease. It is a rare form of brain damage that leads to a rapid decrease of mental function and movement. She has a husband and 2 young boys, and she will die from this. If you would like to read more about this devastating story click HERE. There is information on how to help her family if you are able...if not, keep them in your prayers.

Challenge #6 was to create a card for Michelle and her family...although optional, seems like the very least the scrapping community could do for her...

Here's a new LO I did for the Blast from the Past Challenge at Gotta Pixel. I found this old newspaper clipping of my Grandma's graduating class from Dressmaking School...what a gem! She was so beautiful.

One Month

It's been one month since I lost my Mom...I miss her everyday.

Journal reads:
I can't believe it's been one month that you're gone. Everyday I struggle with not being able to pick up the phone and call you. It's amazing all the things you missed so far, little and big that I would have been rushing to the phone to tell you.

Joshua earned the Laker Jersey at hockey practice for the first time. I don't even think I told you about it, but it's the coach's old pee-wee jersey that he gives to the player who had the best practice that day and they get to wear it for the next practice. He was so excited!

Kayla had her Winter Showcase for dancing and Lori and I performed too. You would love her new dances this year. She is really doing well and has earned her spot front and center, especially in her hip-hop number. Our adult hip-hop number was awesome and Dad was in the front row crying and waving to us like he usually does. He's so proud.

Kayla made the breadcrumbs at Christmas this year. She was so happy that you took the time to show her how and was so proud of herself that she was able to make them. We deemed her "official holiday breadcrumb maker" from now on.

Joshua's poor little hockey team is still struggling. They went 0-3 at the tournament in Skaneateles. The coach has told us that he's not coaching the team next year, so we'll see what next season brings.

Your little granddaughter isn't a little girl anymore. She's grown up and has started her cycle. I fully expected her to call me in tears, but she was fine with it. I think I'm more of a basket-case than she is, she was most worried about saving her new jeans (which I did).

There are certainly a million little things I would have called you for. Even now when I take my lunch at work it's hard to believe and can't call just to chit-chat. I miss you everyday Mom. I know these thing aren't missed, you're watching over us and haven't missed anything really. We just miss you here to share them with.

Week #2's Assignment of P52 - Rule of Thirds

What is the Rule of Thirds?
The rule of thirds is an imaginary tic-tac-toe board is drawn across an image to break it into nine equal squares. The four points where these lines intersect are strongest focal points. The lines themselves are the second strongest focal points.

Kayla, my ever-loving guinea pig...at least she doesn't mind having her photo taken :) By my imaginary tic-tac-toe calculations...the lines should intersect right where her eyes are...see it?

I imagine the response would be:
The time we have is short and everyday is a gift, use it wisely. You will get older, and your appearance will age, but love is the only emotion that never dies. Love endures all things, so love yourself. Be kind to others and your actions will speak greatly of you. Find the reflection that you love because that is the one that your children will carry for the rest of their lives.

For a few years in my ongoing quest to be a healthy person I have been totally focused on the physical. After transforming our lifestyle into one that includes healthy eating habits and daily exercise it's now time for me to concentrate on my mind and soul. Most days it's hard for me to prioritize. The balancing act of a full time job, home life, kids and their activities is tough to manage. I just know there is an easier way. I struggle to get done the things I need to get done vs. the things I want to do. There are days when I wish I had a clone so that I could be in two places at once. There never seems to be enough time to do everything that I want to accomplish. I resolve to work on this aspect for myself this year. I know I can't please everyone but I need to make a change.

P52 ~ Project 52

Some of you may (or may not) have remembered my lame attempt at P365 last year? Well I failed miserably! I think I lasted a month and fizzled out fast...

So what is P52? Well instead of one photo a day, I'm concentrating on one photo a week. I am going to try and brush up on my photography skills (or lack there of) and really focus on quality, not necessarily quantity. Oh, I'll still be taking loads of shots...but really just to find that perfect one...

I'm following Stacy Carlson and VickyD's Project 52 Week Photo Challenge and Stacy's (Unofficial) Project 52 Macro Challenge over at Gotta Pixel.

Now, I'm in "no-stress" mode so if I get to posting them...GREAT. If not, hopefully I can at least keep up with taking them and learning something along the way :-)

Here are my photos for this week...I must say, Mother Nature was particularly spectacular this afternoon and I was fortunate to get outside at the perfect time. All these pretty fluffy snowflakes were floating around and I was able to capture some.

I couldn't just choose one or two so here goes...enjoy!

Happy New Year! I think it's super cool that it's 1-1-11 and I'm so ready for a fresh start...

First...have you noticed my new blog design and color? Have you hopped over to Gotta Pixel yet today? We got a total make-over and the site looks soooooo A-MA-ZING! Kudos to Stacy and the team over there for a job well-done. I'm loving the new colors and the grown-up feel...definitely proud to be part of that community :)

Last...since I failed miserably at P365 last year I decided to embark on a more manageable project for 2011.

Little Gamers

I'm already a huge fan of Armina's designs but when I saw her newest kit "Little Gamers" I *knew* I had to work with it. Number one...I had just the memory to scrap, and two...I just adore the colors and all the cute little gamer elements. This is the perfect addition to my stash, I know I'll be getting a lot of use out if this one!

This particular event required a 2-pager...this is the kids at Innoventions at EPCOT last year. They actually wound up in their own video game! It was super cool...

The journal reads:
Innoventions at EPCOT was one of the coolest attractions we visited. At Runtime you were able to star in your own video game! You went in one of the capture stations and it took video of you running, jumping, and dancing. Then it created an avatar of you and put you inside your own video game! We were able to email the links home so that you could play online when we got back from vacation! WDW 9-2009

CT assignment #2 is Kristmess Designs, so I snagged one of her newest kits, Fishful Thinking (even the name is cute!). Kayla took her 5th grade field trip recently to Camp Weona...her 1st overnighter, and of course I was NOT allowed to chaperone! LOL Thankfully, one of her teachers was kind enough to compile a CD of photos that were taken. They weren't the best, and she wasn't in too many of them...but I'll take what I can get! This kit was perfect for a LO for her scrapbook!

The fishing elements reminded me of Dad...so I made a LO for him too...

I Am a Child of the 80s...

...so of course I was totally drawn to this kit! This month I get to work with designs by Spinky Dink Scraps...and I admit I've had my eye on this kit for a while now ;-) Isn't this just the cutest 80's retro kit!? And I have to say I had a lot of fun playing!

Here is the journal for this one...once I got reminiscing I couldn't stop!!!

I am a child of the 80's...I remember when Don Johnson was "cool." I owned a walkman. I still think Hulk Hogan is the best wrestler of all time. I remember and actually bought magazines with song lyrics. I owned a Swatch Watch. I will always be a Michael Jackson fan. My hair was a constant experiment and I didn't go a day without my Aqua-Net hairspray. I am still mad that Wham broke up. I've worn the collar up on my polo shirts. I always wanted to be on Star Search or Tiny Talent Time. I watched Mary Lou Retton win the gold. My first video game system was IntelliVision and I remember when Atari was state-of-the-art. I still remember the visions of the Challenger exploding. My Cabbage Patch doll's name was Gillian Olive and I had a Koosa named JuJu. I wore friendship pins on my sneakers. I tied the tongues down and had gigantic pink pom-poms on my roller skates. I still know all the words to "White Lines" but at the time had no clue what I was singing. I wore a feather roach clip in my hair because it was stylish and I had no idea what it was. "Where's the Beef" still makes me laugh. I remember when the sandwiches at McDonalds came in styrofoam boxes. I know how much voltage is in a lightning bolt (1.21 jigawats). I remember when the prizes were inside the cereal boxes. I still have my scratch-n-sniff sticker collection. I would tape songs off the radio by holding my tape player up to the speaker. I had to be home when the street lights came on. I've owned a pair of jelly shoes and put my hair in banana clips. I can still kick anyone's butt at Ms. Pac Man!

ADSR comes to an end...

We here they are...the last 2 challenges this week...and with that, the end of the race. I've had an awesome time, created a few layouts that otherwise would never have been done, learned so much more about my friend and racing partner, been challenged to create out of my comfort zone, collected over $80 in prizes (so far!)...what more could you ask for?

WOW...I can't believe this is our 10th challenge!

Our next challenge was up at Inspiration Lane

This is an INTERSECTION challenge, so both team members had to work on a single layout!

Theme: What inspires your inner artist?
Kim and I had the same feeling so we chose our kids. My kids inspire me everyday to simply be a better person. Our layout had to include 2 photos - 1 photo from each of us - that shows what inspires us.

The first part of our challenge was to look at the color wheel and each team member had to scrap in opposing colors...

The next part of the challenge was to gain our inspiration from this quote:

ROADBLOCK! This means only one of our team may complete the challenge. This time I took the challenge...

Scrappity-Doo-Dah concocted a challenge that sounds a lot easier than it really was!

Theme: Scrap Yourself!

Directions:
1. Select 2 papers, solid/solid, solid/pattern, pattern/pattern.
2. Lay your first paper so that if covers the entire workspace.
3. Take the second paper insert it into your LO and decrease the size so that the paper is slightly smaller than the bottom layer.
4. Shadow the top layer.
5. Select a photo of you when you were younger and another one of you taken within the past year.
6. Photos should be 4 x 6. They can be vertical or horizontal. They can be color, sepia, or black/white.
7. Place the younger version of you in the top right quadrant of your layout.
8. Frame it.
9. Place the most recent photo of you in the lower right hand quadrant of your layout.
10. Frame it.
11. Select the following number of elements and cluster the areas around these photos.
Buttons - 4
Flowers - 4
Leaf//Leaves - 2
Heart shapes - 2
String / Twine - 2
Glitter/Bling - 2 (If you have glitter on a flower or other element, you can not count it towards your glitter/bling requirement)
Metals - 4 (this can be staples, keys, brads etc... it must be obvious)
Ribbon - 2
Flourishes - 2
12. Type up 10 words to describe yourself. They can be in any font, as long as its legible, and would prefer they be positives about you.
13. Tuck these words near your clustering -- they must be visible and not hidden by elements.

We must use at least 6 of the items listed. Since this is the month of Valentine's Day, our special challenge is to incorporate CHOCOLATE into our layout. So, 6 items in the recipe and chocolate!

Oh, yes I have been taking/collecting photos for my P365 project...but getting them edited and posted has proved to be quite the challenge. Soooo, month 2 and I'm already this far behind...doesn't look too good, but I'm hanging in there.

I was so inspired I actually got my first P365 layout completed...woah!!! Now if I can just post some pics from February already...Trust me, they're taken, but editing and posting them has taken me forever!

The challenge is to create 2 ATC's (Artist Trading Cards), one about something or someone you love and the other honoring your ADSR partner. These ATC's are little, only 2.5" x 3.5". They are supposed to be mini-works-of-art, mini layouts, mini whatever... Now, I've never done one before so I had to do a little research. Some are very artsy, sometimes with photos, maybe a little journaling, some are very whimsical, some vintage, sometimes they look just like a layout...pretty much whatever the artist decides.

So we each make 2, collaborate to make one preview and upload. No biggie, right? Oh brother!!... WRONG!!! I started reading some of the posts in the forum and I am always amazed at how much people can find to nit-pick and complain about something that they voluntarily signed up for and get rewarded with free stuff for playing...geesh!

Now, there is a reason I've never done an ATC before...waste of time ranks among the top. BUT, I feel they are still a viable part of digital scrapbooking and they have a legitimate place in this race. This is the Amazing Digi-Scrapping Race...not the Amazing Digi-Layouts Only Race! ATC's may not be my favorite, but I can see now why people like them. It's just like brag books, badge albums, or hybrid...not my preferred format, but if we all liked the same thing this would be a pretty boring world.

ADSR is a "challenge"...that means that we're not always going to get what we want and it's not going to be cake-walk. That is the whole reason I signed up in the first place...I wanted to be pushed out of my creative box and out of my comfort zone. I chose to embrace this challenge and I'm pretty happy with what I came up with...I may just print my little ATC's out :-)

Ok...I think Kim and I may be long-lost sisters or something because we share half a brain! We didn't discuss the challenge prior to both completing our cards...and how funny we both created cards about parents (well, my parents, her in-laws, but close enough)...and notice the butterfly's in our cards for each other???

Now we have to wait until Sunday for the next challenge...I am really looking forward to it! Thanks for looking...oh, and the image is clickable is you want a better view or need to get your hands on some of the cool stuff we used.

ADSR ~ Challenge 3

Our third stop in a race around the digi-world was to Scrappers Online who presented us with our next challenge...

Re-cap of required elements:
1. One focal photo with selective coloring (coloring a portion of a photo while the rest remains black and white or monochromatic)
2. 20 or more words of journaling with creative flair and/or highlights
3. At least one date element!

I found this old pic of Kayla on a CD of older digital photos...Its from a cell phone and the quality isn't great, but it makes me laugh everytime :-) I'm glad I scrapped it!

Here are some more pics from our Disney vacation in Sept. I love how WDW is always creating new and exciting ways to make the World Showcase (countries) part of Epcot more interesting for the kids. They've put in an interactive mission that the kids can do in a few of the countries...they give them a Kimmunicator (cell phone) that prompts them with clues that sends them to different parts of the country. Each clue will lead them to a villian that they are trying to help Kim Possible save the world from. It was pretty cool!

Kayla and Josh being secret agents for Kim Possible and saving the world in Japan from the evil villian Bebe. With the help of their Kimmunicator, they were given the clues needed to find the villian and stop their quest for world domination.

ADSR ~ Challenge 2

Our second stop in ASDR5 was to Digital Scrapbook Artisan Guild which was a "Fast Forward" Challenge...the first team to complete this challenge has the option of SKIPPING next week's challenge if they choose! That won't be us...but I never wanted to skip any of the challenges anyhow :-)

DSAG left us a Recipe/Challenge:

Theme: 5 things I LOVE about...
Title: use a combination of 5 fonts and/or alphas
Photos: use 5 photos, one of the photos must have the number 5 in it!
Use 5 different elements of the same type

Season to taste: add ingredients from your digital pantry to make this layout your own!

Boogity Boogity Boogity...Let's Go Racing!!!

Hmmm...what a coincidence that ADSR5 coincides with the start of Nascar Season...haha. Ok, I'm not a *huge* fan of Nascar, but occasionally watch with the hubby...cause...um...well...I have no control over the remote anyhow LOL!

Anywhoooo...The first challenge for ADSR5 was posted today and Kim and I are super excited to get started! There are over 200 teams and I am anxious to see all the amazing LO's that will be created. I will be posting my weekly LO's here so that you can see too.

Here is the challenge for week one...ADSR Challenge 1 Basically, we have to scrap a LO about our partner, while scraplifting one of her LO's...so soon you'll get to meet Kim too :-)

My wheels are turning...off to be productive.

Lil Moa's Diary

My second designer for February is Edeline Designs...and once again, tough choices!!! The first kit I'm using (heck, yeah I'm going back in for more!) is Lil Moa's Diary. The elements are so super cute and it was perfect for the LO with Kayla and her two BFF's.

My second LO even surprised me, because that was NOT where I was going with it...but I kept looking at that adorable little elephant and it so reminded me of my gram. She loved and collected elephants, but only the ones whose trunks were up...they were considered lucky to her. She would have been 100 years old this past January...and I miss her everyday. TFL :)

Sugar Babe Kit & Add On

Amazing Digi Scrapping Race

You know I'm a huge fan of the show "The Amazing Race" already...but they have a digital scrapbooking race/game that mirrors the show! Cool, eh? We're going to travel site to site, complete challenges, collect prizes, and have LOADS of fun along the way!

I've teamed up with Kim, our CT Leader over at Gotta Pixel and our team name is “iPixelators”...since we're both scrappin' with macs :-) Cute, huh?

I took on the challenge of making our team blinkie too...my first blinkie ever!!!! Wanna see? I knew your did...

Thanks to Bella Gypsy for permission to use their One Tough Cookie and Rock the Cradle Kits to make my creation, I also used some bits from Captivated Visions An Apple a Day Kit.
