Polish Tradition

Making pierogies for the holidays is a ton of work...but it is part of my heritage and a tradition that I love.

I used Etc by Danyale's Recipe Box Kit and Wordart. You can find it in her Store at the Digichick!

Special Lady

Just one of the most beautiful people I know :)

Journal reads:
Grandma Carmella has been as much a Grandma to us since we were born. She is my Uncle Danny’s Mother and at 98 years old she is still as sharp as a tack and is probably the strongest and most loving woman I know. I can only hope to live as full and happy a life as she has. I will always have a very special place in my heart for this very special lady. photo 10-2009 ~ journal 12-2011

One Year Without You

Well, this month marks the anniversary of the day my life as I know it changed forever. My Mom died on December 12, 2010 and I work everyday on trying to find my new "normal". I know this process takes time but I've found some comfort in my scrapping and journal. Looking forward to a brand new year and a fresh start.

Fairy Tale Ending

This keeper of a photo was taken on our way to the airport after our last trip to Disney in September...ahhhhh...if they were only always like this together ;-)

Journal reads:
You two were completely exhausted after our trip to Disney. After 9 full days of having the time of our lives, who could blame you. We just finished our last day at Magic Kingdom and we were headed to the airport to catch our flight home and it took you both about 15 minutes and you were sleeping like babies. This photo warms my heart, it was the perfect ending to a wonderful vacation.

I used Laura's Dreamland Kit which is now part of Gotta Pixel's Gotta Grab it! All parts are only $1. You can find it in Laura Burger's Store at Gotta Pixel!

Thankful for Memories

In keeping with the November theme of being thankful...I can honestly say I am so thankful for all of my memories. I did this LO for Laura Burger's Use the Prompts Challenge at Gotta Pixel...

Journal reads:
Losing both parents in 10 months has proven to be the most challenging time in my life...I consider myself blessed to have all of these wonderful memories...I have inherited boxes and boxes of photos, each with their own story to tell...My days have been spent reminiscing as I sort through each and every one of them...Mom and Dad, you’ve filled my life with such joy and happiness...thank you for the memories...I will hold them close forever.

Free Spirited

Here is Kayla's school picture for this year...she hates it, but don't all *almost 13 year olds* hate their photos? I think it's perfect! She's enjoying middle school and has made the high honor roll for the first quarter...she's also on the Swim Team this year!

Childhood Christmas

It's been a rough year for me and my family. With Mom passing in December, and now Dad just a few weeks ago...it's been a struggle. I'm using my scrapping as therapy and have uncovered some wonderful photos and wonderful memories that I will hold tight to get me through.

Journal reads:
Our holidays were always full of fun and tradition. Christmas Eve was our time with relatives. We always had a traditional Polish dinner at our house. Fish, pierogies, and mushroom soup on the menu. Us kids were always so impatient waiting to open gifts.

Christmas Day was just us. We never went anywhere...just spent it with our little family. We would open gifts first thing and then have all day to play. Dad would spend hours putting toys together and playing with us. Mom would usually nap since she was always up so late wrapping gifts.

I used Laura's NEW! Miracles of Christmas Scrap Kit. You can find it in Laura Burger's Store at Gotta Pixel!

Today I ran...

I did this one for Laura's Use the Prompts Journal Challenge at Gotta Pixel.

Journal reads:
This was my first run of Spring and coincidentally the first since Mom died. There used to be a time when running was my escape, my time to be alone with my thoughts. Now, I don’t like to be alone with my thoughts...they are painful and still so sad. It took everything I had not to just stop, walk home and forget about it. It hurt to keep going, but I don’t ever want to disappoint her. Even now. I’m going to keep running and hopefully it will become more therapy for me...my time to deal with it instead of bottling it all up inside. April 7, 2011

ADSR #5 & #6

And the race goes on...

Leg #5 was hosted by Oscraps and was to scrap a page about what you would dream of doing for a whole day (or longer) if you could get away from the family.

Here is mine:

And Kim's:

Leg #6 was to be hosted by Digital Scrap Ink but due to unimaginable circumstances the nice folks at NDISB took the reins and submitted an optional challenge...

Let me explain...Due to the fact that Michelle from Digital Scrap Ink is gravely ill and in the hospital the regularly scheduled challenge was not posted. Michelle was recently diagnosed with Creutzfeldt-Jacob disease. It is a rare form of brain damage that leads to a rapid decrease of mental function and movement. She has a husband and 2 young boys, and she will die from this. If you would like to read more about this devastating story click HERE. There is information on how to help her family if you are able...if not, keep them in your prayers.

Challenge #6 was to create a card for Michelle and her family...although optional, seems like the very least the scrapping community could do for her...

The 3rd Challenge was found here at the host site NDISB

My LO:

Kim's LO:

The 4th Challenge was found at DigiScrapStation and was an Intersection! This means we both had to work on the challenge to complete one page. I provided Kim with the photos and journaling and she created the LO...and did a stellar job, I might add! Thanks Kim :)

1947 Style

Here's a new LO I did for the Blast from the Past Challenge at Gotta Pixel. I found this old newspaper clipping of my Grandma's graduating class from Dressmaking School...what a gem! She was so beautiful.

Journal reads:
The sewing gene is one
that I didn’t inherit. My Grandma
was an excellent seamstress and I have very
vivid memories of watching her create dresses
and outfits for me and my sister. My Mom was
also very talented and was even teaching Kayla
how to sew, hoping it just skipped my generation.

I used the Etc. by Danyale's newest page kit Looking Back and the Blush Mini Add-On. You can find them in Danyale's Store at Gotta Pixel!

My Girl

Journal reads:
Everyday I try hard to remember that I am your example of being a woman. The way I act, the way I speak, the way I dress should be the direct reflection of how I want to see you mature. The way I treat myself emotionally and physically will influence your self esteem and the way you feel about yourself. I hope that when you grow to be an adult you will look back and be proud of me as your Mother. Always stay true to yourself. I love you so very much.

I used the Laura's newest page kit "Mistic County". You can find it in Laura Burger's Store at Gotta Pixel!
